A. and Pearl Hicks Brown. He received his preparatory education at Southwestern at Memphis and at Auburn University, and his legal education at the University of Alabama and at Georgetown University. He is a member of Phi Alpha Delta fraternity. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1935, and to the United States Tax Court in 1954. Brown served as State Senator from 1942-1946, and Chairman of the Dale County Hospital Association since 1964. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar, the American Bar Association, the Law Science Academy, the American Judicature Society, and Farrah Law Society. He served as chairman of the Alabama Advancement Committee on Civil Rights (1959-1960). He is president-director of the Ozark Broadcasting Corporation, director of the Commercial Bank of Ozark, president-owner of the Douglas Brown Insurance Agency, Inc., and owner of Brown Real Estate Company. He is also president of Brown Development Company, Enterprise, Alabama; director of Enterprise Motel Company. A veteran of World War II he served with the U.S. Army Air Force, 1943- 1944. ^ He married Kathryne Parker on November 1, 1944, and they have three children, Kathryne Amelia, Patricia Ruth, and Clementine Aileen. Their oldest child, James Douglas Brown, Jr., was killed in an automobile accident in 1967. He is a Democrat, a Presbyterian elder, a Shriner, a Rotarian, and a member of the Ozark Country Club.
