Newspaper article Mrs. Rudd, Dr. Caffey Named Ozark Man - Woman of Year Dr. Taylor Caffey and Mrs.Ann Welk Rudd are the "Man and Woman of the Year", in Ozark, as announced this week by the Twentieth Century Juniorette Club. This is an annual project of the club, which gathers nominations and information concerning nominees from important Ozark business and professional men and women. Final selections are made by secret ballot. Dr. Taylor Caffey is a native Mississippi, where he attended public schools. He was graduated from Millsaps College and University of Mississippi, receiving his Medical Degree from the latter institution. His internship and residency was accomplished at Mobile General Hosptal and he was honored in 1963 as "Intern of the Year." Since 1964, Dr. Caffey has practiced family medicine in Ozark, where he and his wife, Carol, are both active in community affairs. The Caffey family, which includes two children, Kathy and Taylor, Jr., attend the Presbyterian Church. The Man of the Year is a former member and officer of the Ozark Jaycees and was honored by the group as the "Outstanding Young Man of the year." He is a past President of the Ozark Rotary Club and served as Interact Committee Chairman for four years. Dr. Caffey was chairman of the Alabama-Florida Boy Scout Council for 1967 and 1968 and served as a member of the Alabama-Florida Boy Scout Council executive Board in 1966 and Chairman of the Choctaw District for 1969-70. Other offices held include membership on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Heart association and as Secretary-treasurer of the Alabama Diabetes Association. He also serves on the Board of the Dale County Medical Association and works with Crippled Childrens Funds and Clinics. Dr. Caffey is a member of the Ozark Industrial Board, a Director of the Dale County Chamber of Commerce and the Ozark Country Club. Mrs. Ann Welk Rudd, "Woman (Continued on Page 8) (Continued from Page 1) of the Year" for Ozark, is also an adopted Ozarkian, being a native of Union Springs and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Welk. Mrs. Rudd is the wife of Jimmy Rudd and they have four children. She attended Auburn University, majoring in the Visual Arts and has been named a "Professional Artist" by the radio-stations and press. Mrs. Rudd is a member of the Woman's Guild, serving as Fine Arts Chairman and as Treasurer. She was 6th District Chairman of Fine Arts for the Alabama Federation of Women's Clubs and is a delegate to Fed-eration meetings. Frequently, she gives programs on various forms of art for many organizations. As a member of the Service-League of Ozark, she has served as publicity chairman and program chairman and as a member of the Ozark Country Club she was social chairman in 1968-69. In 1967 and again in 1968, Mrs. Rudd was a Wiregrass Prize Winner in Dothan's Purchasing Art Show and in Tuskegee Art Show for Best Purchasing Art Show. Her church affiliations are with the Ozark Baptist Church, where she is a member and Sunday School worker. As a young lady, Mrs. Rudd was chosen "Junior Miss of Sylacauga" in 1961 and "Miss Sylacauga' in 1962. On Monday evening, October 12, the 20th Century Club honored Dr. Caffey and Mrs. Rudd with a reception at the home of Melissa Robinson. Lisa Wood was co- hostess. Decorations were formed of clusters of white roses. Jane Quattlebaum gave the devotional and Kim Andrews and Martha Makowski enumerated the achievements of the honored guests. Donna Murrah, President, presented the engraved trophies to Dr. Caffey and Mrs. Rudd, wishing for each a wonderful year as "Outstanding Man and Woman of the Year."
