Hardzog, Jr. was featured in an article, "Sixty Seconds Over Target," which recently appeared in the Saturday Evening Post. Captain Hardzog is now assigned to the 33rd Ferrying Group, based at Fairfax Field here, as tactical inspector and as a pilot. Captain Hardzog, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Hardzog, Sr., Newton Street, Ozark, was awarded the Air Medal and nine Oak Leaf clusters for flying 50 bombing missions against the enemy in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Overseas 10 months he was an operations officer for five months and flew large transport planes for a troop carrier group over territory occupied by the Allies for two and a half months in addition to flying the 50 bombing missions in B-25 medium Mitchell bombers, 25 missions on which he was a flight leader. The magazine article is a story told by Lt. Carl V. Abrams who flew with Captain Hardzog as a bombardier on 40 of the bombing missions. Captain Hardzog attended Dale County High School at Ozark, attended the University of Alabama for three and a half years and had attended the George Washington University law school at Washington two and a half years when he entered the service on November 10, 1941 as an aviation cadet.
