Walter J. Brackin Dies At Home Here Prominent Civic Leader Last Rites Tuesday Morning Mr. Walter James Brackin age 64, prominent Ozark business man died at his home here at 5:30 Sunday afternoon following a four months illness. Mr. Brackin was stricken early in the summer and despite the best of medical attention he grew gradually worse. Mr. Brackin came to Ozark in 1935 when he purchased the theatre property here and had made his home here since that date. An astute business man with a thorough knowledge of the theatre business and a firm belief in his adopted home, Mr Brackin built a beautiful new theatre here In 1937 to better serve the public. A civic-minded citizen, he gave liberally of his time and means in the devolpment, of this community. taking an active part in Chamber of Commerce work. His faith in the future growth of this city and county was attested in his investment in a new theatre, of metropolitan proportions in 1945. He also constructed a modern theatre in Elba. Mr. Brackin, a past president of the Chamber of Commerce, was an actvie member of the Ozark Kiwanis Club and was a liberal contributor to the underprivilepged children's activities of that organizatlon. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from the Ozark Methodist Church with Rev. John B. Johnson officiating and Dr. D. P. Slaugter assisting. Interment was in the Westview cemetery with Holmnn directing. Pallbearers were Fred McClendon, Rep. George Andrews, _. C. Clouse, H. L. Holman. Jr.. A. M. Turner, Tom Goff, Harry Wexler, and Sam Y. Carroll. Members of the Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce were honorary pallbearers. He is survived by his widow, Mrs, Fannie Howze Brackin: one daughter Mrs. Etta Clair Novak, one son-in-law, Thomas E. Novak: one grandson, Walter Brackin Novak: one sister, Mrs. Lloyd Hall of Tallahassee. Fla , two brothers, David Brackin of San Diego. Calif., Ollie T. Brackin of Miami, Fla., two sisters-in- law.
