Also in attendance were Caroline Helms-Havrisik and Ted Helms, who's father, Stanley Helms, was a rural carrier in Clopton from 1919 until 1956. Betty Sanders-Jordan, who's parents owned the store where the original post office was housed in 1853. Her mother, Robbie Sanders, was also a former postmaster in Clopton. Thomas Waters, who now owns the building where the original post office was housed and owns the building the current post office is housed, was also present. Several local officials were present including Bryant Mixon [Dale Co. Sheriff], Marshall Williams [Barbour Co. Sheriff], along with his wife, Betty Williams, and Kenneth Walker [Chairman of the Democratic Committee for Dale County]. Mr. Walker's father, William Walker, was Sheriff of Dale County for many years. Kenneth is also a Clopton native. Well known artist, Jack Deloney, was present to celebrate the day and autograph note cards of the painting he had created of the original Post Office. A special "Thank You" was expressed to all the postal employees from area offices that were in attendance. A special thanks to all the people of Clopton and surrounding communities who took the time to celebrate and reminisce about days gone by with us. Clopton for a few hours looked like the boom town it was in the 1800s. Thank you again to everyone who made this such a special day.
