FORT, merchant of Bridges, was born July 22, 1852. He is a son of B. J. Fort, whose biographical memoir appears elsewhere in this work. He received when young a country school education, and then attended Erskine college, at Due West, S. C., during the junior year. He then returned to Bridges, his native town, where he has since resided as a farmer, merchant, stock raiser and hotel keeper, limiting himself, however, for the last four years to the business of a general merchant, and. that of a hotel keeper. His business in the former line amounts to about $5,000 per annum. He was married in 1877 to Miss Lila Gilmer of Dallas county. In politics he is a democrat. He is a member of the order of Knights of Pythias, and he is a master Mason. In religion he is a member of the Presbyterian church.
