RUFFIN, Physician and Surgeon, was born December, 1826, in Rockingham County, N. C., and is the son of James H. and Susan (Williamson) Ruffin, natives of Virginia and North Carolina, and of English and Scotch descent, respectively. James F. Ruffin graduated in the literary course from the University of North Carolina in 1846; three years afterward graduated in medicine from the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), and at once came to Demopolis to pursue the practice of his profession, where he has ever since been living. Dr. Ruffin was married in January, 1851, to Miss Rosalie, daughter of Samuel Strudwick, of Marengo County. Her death occurred in 1860, and he was married, the second time, to Miss Ann, a sister of his first wife, in 1864. Dr. Ruffin has one child, Agnes Y.
