Updike and his wife, Susan to John L. Dabney 22 Aug. 1846 - Dallas Co., AL A deed from W. J. Updike and wife to John L. Dabney was filed on this ffice ______the 22nd day of November 1862. The state of Alabama this Indenture made this Dallas County twenty- second day of Aug in the year of our Lord our thousand eight hundred and forty-six between William J. Updike and Susan his wife of the first part and John L. Dabney of the second part, all of the county Dallas & State aforesaid. The party of the second part, Witnesseth: That the party of the first part for and inconsideration of the sum of 1100.00 dollars to them in hand paid by the said John L. Dabney, at and before the unsealing and delivery of these presents, this receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, ____ bargained & sold, & by these presents doth bargain and sell confirm and convey unto the said John L Dabney his heirs & assigned forever. The following described lots or parcels of land to wit: (the South East quarter of Section fourteen in Township fourteen of Range Eights containing our hundred and seventy-one acres be this same more or less) together with all and singular this indenture and appendages as to the same belonging on _______wise appertaining. To have and to hold unto the aforesaid John L. Dabney, his heirs and assigns forever all and singular the above bargained premises and every part and parcel thereof to the sole and only proper use and behest of the said Dabeney his heirs and assigns is fee simple, and we ___ William J. Updike and Susan his wife as afore paid, for ourselves our heirs executors administrators or assigns forever warrant & defend the right and title of this above mentioned & previous to the said Dabney his heirs to assigned and all other persons or person lawfully claiming or lawfully to claim the same. In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands & affixed our seal this day and date first above written In person of W. J. Updike Seal Susan Updike Seal The State of Alabama Dallas County Personally appeared before me H. S. Harris an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County, the above mentioned William J. Updike and Susan his wife who singular acknowledged that they signed sealed and delivered the foregoing Deed to the said John L. Dabney on this day as date thereof for this purpose therein of pressed and Susan Updike wife as of aforesaid being examined separate and apart from her said husband, acknowledges that she signed, seals and delivered the foregoing deed of her own free will and accord, without any compulsives from her said husband, but for the purposes therein expressed, and that she is still satisfied therewith, given under my hand & seal this 22nd day of August A.
