Army of the Confederate States Certificate of Disability for Discharge Private James Jeffers of Captain Thomas Phelan's Company A of the 8th Ala Regiment of Confederate States was enlisted by Capt Royston of the 8th Regiment of Alabama at Marion Alabama on the 16th Day of May 1861 to serve for the War. He was born in Dallas County in the state of Alabama, is forty one years of age, dark complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, and by occupation when enlisted, a pitcher. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 60 days. Station: Winder Hospital June 13, 1862 I Certify that I have carefully examined the said James Jeffers of Captain Phelan's Company and find him in capable of performing the duties of a soldier because of irritatis sinalis with an ulcer in the lumbar regions. Born in Dallas County in the state of Alabama, aged 41 years five feet ten inches high, dark complexion, black eyes, dark hair, and by occupation farmer was enlisted by Capt. Y.L. Royston at Marion Alabama to serve during the war and is now entitled to discharge by reason of disability. The said James Jeffries was last paid by Capt. J. A. Robbins to include the 31 day of December 1861 and has pay due from that date to the present date. There is due him commutation for six months clothing and fifty dollars bounty. Given in duplicate at Richmond this 19th day of June 1862 R. S. Sanders 2 Lieut Pay from 31st December 1861 to 19th June 1862 being five months and 19 days at Eleven dollars per month. 6 months commutation for clothing and bounty for enlistment total $136.96 Received of Capt.
