Distinguished Service Cross Citation
  Charles S. Maas, corporal, Company F, 167th Infantry. For extraordinary
heroism in action near Croix Rouge Farm, France, July 26, 1918. He voluntarily
went out under a terrific machine-gun fire to the rescue of his commanding
officer, who had been wounded. Residence at enlistment: 324 Lauderdale Street,
Selma, Ala.
