Friends and family offered a $500.00 reward as well. How many men pursued Joseph Noles(accompanied by son, Thomas)is unknown. But, the reward was evidently shared by two Dallas Co. citizens; B. J. McCaine and A. B. King-(see “arrested” article). Two others-Wm. B. Hall and M. Wheelin evidently never secured an extradition paper for their search(see item on this site). Hall was a witness to the crime. His fear, and reckless words, likely hastened the gunfire. See his testimony, and that of others, in the Alabama Supreme Court transcripts on this site.
