Dallas County Alabama I Thomas J B Jones planter, of Dallas County, State of Alabama being feeble in body but sound in mind and memory do make this my last Will and testament, in manner and form following, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. Viz: First: I desire that all of my just debts be paid so soon as practicable. Second: And whereas I am owing a considerable amount to Mrs. Caroline S. Jones guardian for the minor children of Henry W. Jones, and whereas she refuses to receive the present currently for payment; and whereas also if any land were sold, the currency would not be received in discharge of said debt, therefore it is my will that my executors do act only, or make such other disposition of my lands as they may think best until said time as said land can be sold for a currency that will pay said debt. And then, that they proceed to sell my said land at public or private sales as they may deem best, and on such sale to make good and proper legal title thereto with out interference of any country. And also that my executor make such disposition of the money on hand as they may deem most for the interest of my Estate, by loaning it out or investing in Bonds, until it can be made available to pay my debts. Third: After the payment of my debts, I desire that all my property of every description be equally divided between my wife & child as more fully stated below in this will. Fourth: I desire that my wife shall have the privilege of retaining without hire, one Negro woman, if she wishes, for the purposes of waiting on her and her little Boy Charley. Viz: If she desire or would rather, she can obtain one of mine and hire hers in the stead and the hire to belong jointly to her and her child, as the other assets of my Estate. Fifth: My property to remain in common between my said wife and little son during her widowhood or life, or until my son Charles arrives at the age of twenty one years, then to be equally divided between them. Sixth: I hereby nominate and appoint Joseph Soles, Enoch Kervin & James D. Craig Executors of this my last will & testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 7th day of July AD 1864. Thomas J B Jones {seale} Signed, sealed & acknowledged in presence of John P. Jones & Jno. T Johnson
