L. Russell Dead. Last week the JOURNAL announced the sad news of the death of Mr. R. A. Russell of Gaylerville [Gaylesville), Ala. This week comes the intelligence of the death of his brother, Doctor S. L. Russell, who died at his home in Gaylesville on Monday, October 7th, 1895 Doctor Russell was one of the foremost men of North Alabama. For more than half a century he has gone in and out before these people and his life has been a grand illustration of a well rounded, active Christian character. For more than a quarter of a century he has been engaged in teaching and preaching the gospel. As an instructor he had few superiors and as a minister he stood in the front rank. He taught and preached by example as well as precept and few men have more forcibly left their impress upon the hearts and minds of the people. His death was not altogether unexpected, yet when it was first announced that he was afflicted with Bright's disease, his friends still hoped that he would be spared for many years. Doctor Russell was for one term President of the North Alabama College at Fort Payne and lived among our people. He had so endeared himself to us that each member of the community keenly felt his loss. To the bereaved family and relatives the JOURNAL extends heartfelt sympathy. Yet in their sorrow they may be consoled by the reflection that his life had been one of great usefulness, that he had been the instrument in God's hand of much good to his fellow men and that his end was peace. The Fort Payne Journal, October 16, 1895 Sulphur Springs, Oct. 12, 1895. Whereas, S. L. Russell, D.
