The Fort Payne Journal, Wednesday, May 1, 1895
Death at Gaylesville.
Sam Russell, son of Robt. Russell, died of brain fever at the home of his 
father at Gaylesville on last Friday.  He was only 20 years old and a very 
promising young man.  His funeral occurred on Saturday and was attend by his 
three uncles, James, Lafayett and Marcus Russell and also by his cousins, W. W. 
Blake and Miss Nannie Russell of this city.  His death was an unexpected and 
severe blow to his parents, relative and friends.
