He served in Company B of the 46th Alabama Infantry. This is the same regiment that Carey Tucker served in. George was captured at Port Gibson during an engagement between Gen Grant and Gen Bowen on April 30, 1863. The Port Gibson engagement was where Maj. Gen. U.S. Grant launched his march on Vicksburg in the Spring of 1863. Grant crossed the river at Bruinsburg on April 30. Advancing on the Rodney Road towards Port Gibson, Grant's force ran into Rebel outposts after midnight and skirmished with them for around three hours. Union forces caused the Rebels to retreat toward Vicksburg. In a pension application signed by Nettie Nash, she stated that her father, George Nash, died at Camp Chase, Ohio during the war. The Camp Chase web site lists George Nash as a confederate prisoner of war: George W.
