  "In the passing of Mrs. M. E. Cain on Monday morning, June 23, Wetumpka lost 
one of its most revered women and the First Presbyterian Church her beloved 
senior member.
    She was ill about 16 month and the end came quietly at her home on Coosa 
Street just at dawn. 
    Mary Eugenie was born in the home of Narcissa Douglas and James Montgomery 
Smith in Montgomery on November 29, 1868. She was married to James Jordan Cain 
on April 24, 1889, in the Methodist Church at Wetumpka. He preceded her in 
death on June 11, 1913.
    Mrs. Cain lived a challenging life that drew out the best in others. 
    High ambitions guided her and she was never satisfied with half-hearted 
service. By her sweet disposition, her unselfish life, and an abiding fait she 
built day by day, genuine qualities that made her a strong Christian.
    Her only son, Douglas, passed away on October 12, 1951.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock from the First 
Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the City Cemetery.
    Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. A. H. Holmes, Colorado Springs, 
Col; Mrs. W. A. McCreless and Mrs. F. M. Douglass, Jr., two grandchildren, Mrs. 
William L. Carney of Miami, Fla., and Frazier Michael Douglas III of Birmingham 
and six great-grandchildren." (1)

They are both buried in Wetumpka City Cemetery, Wetumpka, Elmore Co., AL.
