Our People Mourn


The Death of Judge Gaddis Brings Sadness to the
Hearts of the People of Elmore County

December 27, 1841
March 24, 1899


Judge William P. Gaddis died at his home in this city on last Friday afternoon.
He had had a severe attack of grippe and had been confined to his room almost
continually for a month. He was not considered dangerously ill, however, until
Thursday when a case of pneumonia was developed. Being weak he sank rapidly and
his heart begun to fail him Friday morning, and death claimed him at noon. Mr.
Gaddis was possessed of a large acquaintance in this county and throughout the
entire state, and every one who knew him veil loved him. While he was not a
member of any church, he was a truly good man, never letting the truly needy who
came to him for help, go away without assistance. He had been an upright citizen
of Elmore county all of him life, vas a lawyer of marked ability, and when the
Democratic party cast about for a candidate to lead the. to victory last August,
Mr. Gaddis was settled upon, and he received the election. Since he was inducted
into office he had made the people a conscientious painstaking official. His
life was one that others might do well to emulate. Mr. Gaddis left a devoted
wife and a number of children who will miss this affectionate husband and
father. They have the heartfelt sympathy of The Herald, and the people of the
entire county.
