HUDDLESTON DIED IN MONTGOMERY HOSPITAL TUESDAY Mrs. R. L. Huddleston died on Tuesday morning in a Montgomery hospital. She had undergone surgery a week before for a hip injury suffered on March 11. She had been in failing health for several years, and during her invalidism made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ed Wadsworth in Montgomery. The former Mattie Dee Howard, she was the daughter of the late John and Susan Smart Howard. She was born at Equality March 17, 1875, but grew up in Weoka community. On May 6, 1891, she was married to a rising young physician, Dr. Robert Lee Huddleston in Columbus, Ga. They established their first home at Wadsworth, but later moved to Deatsville, where the greater part of her life was spent. Her husband was a practicing physician for more than 55 years in Elmore County. He was also active in politics, and served as Senator in the State Senate. They moved to Wetumpka in 1945, where the doctor died in 1946. Mrs. Huddleston was intensely and actively interested in all phases of church work. A loyal member of the First Baptist Church, she gave wholehearted devotion to Women's Missionary Union, serving as president of Elmore W. M. U. Association several years. A teacher in the Sunday School, and held offices in other church organizations. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, and served as a state officer. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Campbell-Brown Funeral Chapel, the Rev. J. Albert Hill, officiating. Burial was in Wetumpka Cemetery. Campbell-Brown Service directing. Pallbearers were J. E. Morris, J. D. Glasscock, U. G. Jones, Geo. Howard, John A. Howle, and Joe Macon. Survivors include one son, R. Winston Huddleston, Wetumpka; two daughters, Mrs. Edward W. Wadsworth, Montgomery and Mrs. William Butterfield, Pascagoula, Miss.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Laurie Haygood, Montgomery, Edward W. Wadsworth, Jr., New Orleans, Charles Robert Butterfield, Bonita Butterfield, Pacagoula, Miss.; Mrs. Jack King, Anniston; seven great-grandchildren, Everett, Paula, and Susanne King, Anniston, Edward W. III, and Stephen Lee Wadsworth, New Orleans, and Charles Trotter, and Teddy Haygood, Montgomery; five brothers, Judge G. H. Howard, Wetumpka, M. S Howard, Holtville, J. H.
