Gilead Name: Map Of Graves In Mt. Gilead After Removal Darden Photo can be seen at: http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/elmore/photos/tombstones/darden/darden875nph.jpg Image file size: 95.0 Kb When Lake Martin Dam was built in the 1920's several old family cemeteries were removed because their current location was going to be covered by water. One family cemetery Darden Cemetery was located in Elmore County close to where the Lake Martin Amphitheater is located today. The graves I know of were removed to three different Cemeteries. Mt Gilead,Harmony and Old Prospect Cemetery. I contacted Alabama Power...They have an Archives Department and they were very helpful to me. I got a copies of two maps...Mt Gilead Cemetery and the Darden Cemetery...The graves were marked by metal pipes and numbered....The maps had drawings of the graves and names of where each person was buried originally and where they were removed to. This map shows the location of graves after they were rmoved to Mt. Gilead.
