E. SNEAD, successful lawyer and farmer of Walnut Grove, Ala., was born February 20, 1859, the son of Logan and Dicy (Beeson) Snead. The family is of Irish descent, and settled in Virginia in very early times. The grandfather of C. E. Snead, Henderson Snead, married and raised his family there, and later in life, in 1845, moved to Alabama. He lived until 1891, when he died at the advanced age of ninety-three years. Mr. C. E. Snead's father was born at Walnut Grove, where he grew up and married and became the father of eight children, five of whom are living, as follows: America, wife of T. J. Chadwick; John H., C. E.; Mary, wife James Baker, Snead, Ala.; William E., and Nancy. The mother of this family died in 1888. Mr. Snead is a successful farmer and merchant. C. E. Snead was reared to manhood in Etowah county, and educated in the ordinary schools of the neighborhood. He began life as a farmer and carried farming on extensively until 1888, when he went into the mercantile business in connection with farming, in the firm of C. E. Snead & Bro., at Walnut Grove. He is a prosperous merchant, and owns over 1,400 acres of land. In February, 1880, he was married to Mary, daughter of Levi Murphree, and four children blessed the union: Nancy Idonia, Dicy Ann Leonia, Mary Magdalena and Logan. In politics Mr. Snead belongs to the republican party.
