He was born in Calhoun County on February 14, 1859 and married Susanna Rebecca Cupp. He was the son of Henry Gulledge and Charity Finley. Henry was killed in the Civil War in 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi during one of the worst battles of the war. His Grave was never found. Robert Henry was only 4 years of age. He grew up in Ohatchee with his sister, Mary Gulledge Schank. Robert Henry and Rebecca bought land in Alfords Bend in 1879 and reared Ten children. Evie Gulledge Smith, Ada Johnson, Henry Jr. married Bulah Gidley and after her death he married Bennie Morrison, Edward married Nora Aultman of Mississippi. Rosa married Buford Hagler, Maggie married Paul Butler, Effie married Ed Wise.(the greatest parents int he world) Ford who died in 1900 married Ruby Judy of West Virginia; Harvey married Phrona Freeman of Alabama City; Daisy married Robert Mayes, son of Sam Mayes for whom Mayes Cross Roads was named. Robert Henry's sister, Nancy Gulledge married Jeff Alford and at one time owned most of Alfords Bend. Henry (Uncle Bob) owned a Country store and when the drummers came, they made sure they were late enough to spend the night.He had a big orchard and grew all of their food and peddled out the things that they could not use.He would leave home before daylight and on his way to Gadsden would wake every neighbor in the community. He was full of fun and loved by all. Uncle Bob and Aunt Becky had thirty grandchildren. Almost every Sunday, some of them would be with Grandmother and Grandfather. Rebecca (Aunt Becky) died June 9, 1935 with cancer. Uncle Bob died six months later. Both are buried in Liberty Methodist Cemetery in Alfords Bend.
