The History


    The first church records are dated December 1880 
with 20 charter members with the Rev. W.J. Hudgens 
serving as pastor from 1880 to 1881.

    The first building constructed was typical of the era, 
that being a one room log structure.  The natural resources 
of trees for lumber and labor of the charter members were 
used to build the church.

    One acre of land near a spring, located on the Wren 
farm, was selected for the building site.  To this day, the 
spring produces fresh, clear and cold water from a small 
cave.  Being near the spring, Cave Springs Baptist Church 
was named.

    From 1880 to 1900 the membership grew to a size that 
the one room structure became inadequate.  In 1905, a 
larger one room frame building was built.  The new building 
was built about ½ of a mile north of the original site.  This 
structure still stands today and services as the church's 
auditorium.


    Educational wings were later added.

    May 3 1964, the church voted to build a pastorium with 
land being donated by the J R Wren Family.  A new brick 
home was built.
