E. Bartlett Published March 20, 1952 in The Boaz Leader Mr. E. E. Bartlett, better known as Uncle Tump, died at his home, Boaz Route Three, Saturday at 6 p. m. after a long illness. He was 66 years old and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was a life long resident of Etowah County. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Zella Snow Bartlett; 4 daughters, and one son, Mrs. James Swofford of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mrs. Leo Helton of Pipson, Cal., Mrs. W. Dito of Scottsboro, Mrs. J. Pat Taylor and Edward Bartlett of Boaz; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister; Mrs. Olie Evans, Scottsboro. Funeral services were held at Shady Grove Church Wednesday at 2 p. m. with Fiquett-Brown Service directing. Rev. Avery Pankey, Rev. Jay Moore and a nephew, Rev. Gurley Bartlett officiating. Active pallbearers were Thaniel Bartlett, Roma Snow, Elbert Bartlett, J. D. Hubbard, Woodrow Taylor, Buddy Bartlett, Bill Cline and Oscar Bartlett. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. H. L. Horsley, Chester Hubbard, Louie Washburn, E. G. Tolley, Harvey Thornhill, D. C. McCoy, Rev. Junior Morton, Luther Wallace, M. C. Roberson, Alvin Roberson and J. W. Brown. Nieces and granddaughters handled the flowers. Interment in church cemetery.
