A graduate of Gadsden High School, Mr. Erwin attended the University of Alabama and Jacksonville State College. He was an active member of Firs Methodist Church, having participated in many of its activities, and had been president of the Franklin Fellowship Sunday School Class, vice-presidents of the Men’s Club and a steward. Mr. Erwin was with the United States Army for two years, having spent most of his services overseas. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gilbert Erwin, Sr.; a brother, Gilbert Erwin, Jr.; a nephew, Mike Erwin; and two uncles, George F. Erwin and W. W. Erwin and W. W. Erwin, all of Gadsden. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in the Collier-Butler Chapel, with Drs. Calvin Pinkard and J. E. Morris officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dr. Sherold Pope, William Singleton, Warm Springs, Ga., David Sharp, Chattanooga, Tenn., Spiro Mastoras, Birmingham, and Earl Looney, Dr. Scott Vance, Dr. Steve Rowe, Willis Harris, George Edwards and Jim Lee, all of Gadsden. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Bob Turnage, Roy Rutledge, Jr., Dr. Orville Morgan, Joe Shirley, Clarence Simmons, Dr. John Bass, Dr. William Warren, the board of stewards of First Methodist Church, and the Men’s Club of the church.
