C. Fielder Published March 30, 1944 The Boaz Leader Sgt. Fielder Killed In Action Word was received Tuesday by Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Fielder, Boaz Route 5, of the death of their son, Sgt. A. C. Fielder, age 22, on March 5. He was with the 1st Marines somewhere in the Southwest Pacific area. Sgt. Fielder had been with the Marines 3 years and 7 months, joining when he was 18 years of age. He fought in the Guadalcanal battle 6 months and received an award for bravery. He was fortunate enough to have a brother, Sgt. Ollie Fielder, who has gone in the same Company with him at the time. The brother had the opportunity of arrending his funeral. Sgt. Fielder was born at Crossville, later coming near Boaz where he spent the greater portion of his life. He made many friends who will be grieved by his passing. He is survived by his parents and three brothers, Ollie, overseas, D. B., awaiting induction and Corley who is in draft age. Following is part of a letter received by his parents from his brother overseas: …..”Listen everyone and read the following lines very close, because this is the hardest thing I ever had to write or say in my life: “The Lord seen fit to call A. C. away, over to that eternal home on or about the 5th of March. Please don't worry any more than you can help. I feel assured he is resting in peace now. He never had to suffer the way he passed on. It was the Father's will that it was his time to be called over. I was priviledged to go to the funeral services. They had quite a nice burial. Now that is about all I can say. Some day I will be able to tell you more, if and when I reach home again. I need the prayers of everyone that I will be able to look beyond the dark hours I am bound to see. One more word; 'Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.' 15th Chapter, 13th verse of St. John....” Sgt. J. D.
