Powell, Sr. Published April 20, 1950 The Boaz Leader Mr. George W. Powell, Sr. who was born August 4, 1873 in Etowah County, died at his home, Boaz Rt. 5 suddenly April 14, 1950 at 11:30. Mr. Powell joined the Church early in life, was a loyal Christian until the end. He worked for N> C. and St. L. RR for 20 years, then returned to his farm where he remained until his death. He was a member of Boaz Lodge I. O. O. F. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, 5 sons, Otto of Gadsden, James, Earl, Joe and George, Jr. all of Boaz; 3 daughters, Mrs. Mary Couville of Birmingham, Mrs. Johnny Faye Blake, Attalla and Mrs. Evelyn Krog of Gown Valley, S. D.; 3 brothers, Heiring and Green of Birmingham and Sam of Boaz; one sister, Mrs. Eunice Brewster of Boaz; Ten grandchilden. Funeral services were held at Carlisle Baptist Church Tuesday at 2 p. m. Rev. Emolry Pankey, Rev. Arthur Davis and Rev. W. D. Parrish officiated with Fiquett- Brown Service directing. Members of Boaz I. O. O. F. Lodge acted as active and Honorary pallbearers. The ladies of his church handled the floral. Interment in Thrasher Cemetery.
