Slay William Jesse Slay, 68, 2314 Norris Avenue, died at 11:50 p.m. yesterday in a local hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Tomorrow at Collier-Butler Chapel with the Rev. George H. Warren officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ted Springer, Paul Barnes, Dale Roberson, Mitchell Stewart, J. W. Dooley, Sam Spence and Gordon Barfield. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emmie M. Slay, and two sons, Thomas Ferrell and Herman Luther Slay, all of Gadsden. Mr. Slay was a retired machinist, formerly employed with Alabama Tool and Die Company and Union Aluminum Company. He was a member of the Forrest Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a native of Georgia and a resident of Etowah County since 1926.
