T. Tarpley John T Tarpley, Sr., 74 Joplin, Mo., died Friday night in Veterans Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., following a long illness. Mr. Tarpley was retired from Armour and Company, Chicago, where he had been head purchasing agent for 35 years. A member of the Methodist Church, and a veteran of World War I, Mr. Tarpley, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Tarpley of Attalla, had resided in Joplin for the past year. Surviving are one son. John L. Tarpley, Jr., Joplin; five sisters, Mrs. O. T. Freeman and Mrs. P. L. Cameron, both of Attalla, Mrs. Clyde Means, Gadsden, Mrs. Edwin Goodhue, Daytona beach, Fla., and Mrs. Andrew H. McElroy, Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, A. P. Tarpley, Birmingham, and Homer G. Tarpley, Tuscaloosa; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Collier-Butler Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Donald M. Mason officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Leon Locklear, Charles W. Burke, Ray Collins, J. Lowery, W. E. Hockensmith, Harold Daniel, Hugh Thomson and Frank Ledbetter. Honorary pallbearers will be all personal friends. The body is expected to arrive tomorrow night, to remain at Collier-Butler through the hour of service. Additional Comments: Submitter not related.
