Nelms THE STATE OF ALABAMA } FAYETTE COUNTY...... } To Any Licensed Minister Of The Gospel, Judge Of The Supreme, or Circuit Court of the State, Judge of Probate, or Justice of the Peace of the County: You are hereby authorized to celebrate the Rites of Matrimony between; John R. Campbell and Thelda J. Nelms and join them together in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony, as Husband and Wife, and this shall be your sufficient warrent for so doing. Given under my hand the 23 day of September 1871 B. W. Wilson, Judge of Probate. I Certify, that on the 24 day of September 1871, I solemnized the Rites of Matrimony, between the above parties, and joined them together as Husband and Wife, at the House of John Jeffries in said County. Wm. M. Enis, Justice Of Peace Note: This is Thelda Jane Jeffreys daughter of John Jackson Jeffreys Jr. and Mahala Castleberry. I received this marriage license came from the Alabama State Archives. This was the first record I had found that prove Thelda had been married before. She is in the 1870 Fayette County census record living at home with her parents John and Mahala Jeffries. Thelda was listed as a daughter and George was listed as a grandson both with last names Nelms.
