[filed by widow ANNIE ELIZABETH STANPHILL, #27128, CSA]. 19 June, 1909, Franklin Co, AL, affidavit of Richard N. Winchester states he is personally acquainted with V. C. Stanphill who did serve as a Confederate soldier in Company B in 27th Regiment of Ala, did not desert and was honorably discharged. s/s Richard N. Winchester 27 July 1909, Pottawatomie co, OK, V.P. Maloy personally acquainted with V.C. Stanphill, who served Co B, 27 Regt AL, Buford’s Brigade, Loring’s Division. 1 March 1914, widow’s application #27128, Lamar County, Texas. V. C. Stanphill died 31 December 1913. Married 28 March 1867, Franklin Co, AL. Annie now age 65, born Franklin co, AL, resident of Texas 20 years, presently live and have lived at Paris, Texas 5 years. V.C. Stanphill served Co B, 27th Ala Infantry from beginning of war in 1861 to close in 1865. After 31 January 1913: Statement by A. J. Chaffin, age 73, living near Madill, OK states he knew V.C. Stanphill 12 or 15 years before the Civil War and from that time “until his death recently”. Does not know regiment for certain, but believes it was the 7th Alabama; that it was Company E; that he served with him and there was no other V. C. Stanphill in that regiment. 20 January 1914, Fountaine Chance and Lena Murphy are known to Annie E. Stanphill as being the widow of V. C. Stanphill. ?? January 1914, Lamar Co, TX, deposition of Clint Scott age 70 of Atoka co, OK, that V. C. Stanphill enlisted Co. E. and Annie E. Stanphill is his widow. 27 January 1914, statement by R. F. Woodward, resident of State of Texas, that he knows Annie E. Stanphill, and that she was a citizen of Texas prior to March 1900.
