In company with his father Mr. Dock Smith. cotton mill employee, the lad was hunting rabbits near their home. One was "jumped" and sought safety among a pile of discarded steel rails. Mr. Smith was at one end looking for the rabbit while Otis had gone to the other end to look also for it. The father saw the rabbit and fired a load of .20 gauge shot at it. Otis, stooping at the opossite end of the rails, looking for the rabbit, received a portion of the load between and in his eyes. Four shot penetrated one eye and three the other. About forty altogether took effect in his face. It is throught by Mr. Smith that a portion of the load fired at the rabbit first struck the side of the rails, glanced off and hit his son. The lad was rushed to a local hospital where an operation was performed. Thursday, it was stated that he might survive but there is little hope of saving his sight. He is a popular student at the high school. ____ CORRECTION In the account of the death of Mr. James M.
