She was a sister of Ted Broxson, Geneva county Tax collector and descendent of the first settlers in Bellwood and Dale County. She was the widow of the late Rev. J. B. Albritton named for our famous bachelor president and the daughter of Elder J. E. Albritton, who was one of the first minister's in coffee County, Alabama. He was born in Laurens County Georgia, October 28, 1810 and was one of the first settlers in the pioneer town of Geneva. He married Penelope Holley, a member of the Holley family of Samson, so prominent in the development of the wiregrass. Elder Albritton later marred Rebecca Alberson, a close relative of the Alberson family of Wesley Chapel. Elder Alberson was most active as a founder of several Primitive Baptist Churches in this section and served as tax assessor of Coffee County, Alabama, from 1860 to about 1870. In 1868 he received 173 votes while his republican opponent got only three votes in Geneva, that was still Coffee County at that time. Late in life, Elder Albritton became a regular Baptist and helped to constitute Friendship Church in 1877. His bible was published in 1848 and seems sacred indeed to handle. Rev. J. B. Albritton was born in 1856 shortly after the election of James Buchanan as president. Rev. Albritton and his father probably helped to constitute more churches than any other family in the wiregrass, except the Register brothers. He was most active as a minister, teacher and historian and prepared a wonderful history of Geneva County that was published in the Hartford News Herald about 1925 in some fifteen installments. The writer has nearly all those articles and they are very informative. Rev. Albritton served as Post Master at Bellwood for many years and was most active in Geneva County politics. Truly, his companion, Vallie Broxson was most devoted to him and her children and was wonderful helper for this great social worker. She lived a long life and reared a fine family. They sleep peacefully in Providence Cemetery, but their work is carried on by their devoted children. One of them, Mrs. Gertrude Weeks recently celebrated with her husband, their Golden Anniversary at their home near Wicksburg. She and her family are able church workers and good singers. They sing at many funerals and are active in social work. One son George is coaching at Florence State Teachers College. Author: J. J.
