KELLY – Geneva Co., Ala. Henry C. Kelly died in the hospital at Geneva, Ala., in Geneva County after an illness of several months. He was 80 years of age and a native of Hartford, but had lived in Coffee Springs for many years – both cities being in Geneva County. Funeral services were conducted by J. J. Collins at Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church on Oct. 31, 1967, and Mr. Kelly’s interment was in the cemetery there beside his mother. The writer used as a text, “The spirit returns unto God Who gave it,” from Ecclesiastes. Mr. Kelly had been a Primitive Baptist in belief. He is survived by a daughter, Wilma; a son, James V. Kelly of Texas; a sister, Mrs. Leona Cumbie of Coffee Springs; and three half-brothers, Alfred, Tillis, and Robert McLaney. – J. J. Collins Additional Comments: Notes: Records at ancestry.com show that Henry C. Kelly was born 6-21-1887, died 10-29-1967, and was the son of James and Emma Childs Kelly. According to a couple of census records, Henry Kelly was a carpenter at one time and also a superintendent in an almshouse. The Mt. Gilead cemetery is about 12 miles west of Dothan, Ala., and is on the Geneva-Houston County Line – part of the cemetery being in each county.
