All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/al/alfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Brenda King McNair McNair1978@msn.com June 11, 2003, 7:31 pm The Stewart - Webster Journal, February 9, 1950 Page 5, Lumpkin, Stewart Co., GA Mrs. Hannah Parker Dies at Louisville Buried At Macedonia Mrs. Hannah Parker, one of the Webster county's oldest citizen and one of the community's most highly esteemed Christian ladies, passed away Monday in the hospital at Louisville following a short illness, and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Nellie Alston and C. W. Stapleton, the old home place in Webster county. The Reverends J. W. Ham, of Parrott, and M. F. Reeves of Americus, were the ministers in charge. Mrs. S. W. Adams, soloist, sang "Beautiful Isle" and "Land Where We'll Never Grow Old," with Mrs. C. E. Bryson as pianist. Burial was in the Macedonia church cemetery. Pall bearers were Albert Stapleton, Gilbert Hughes, Ben Fussell, June Hearon, Kenyon Gunnels, and Merritt Harmon. "Aunt Hanner," as she was affectionately known throughout the years, would have been 96 years of age this month. She was born in Alabama February 21, 1854, moving to Georgia after her mother's death in early childhood. Her father was the late Sidney Stapleton who died while in service during the War Between the States. She married Daniel Davis, of Preston, sheriff of Webster County, and father of Mrs. Jesse Drew, of Preston. After his death she later was married to R. H. Parker who preceded her to the grave 25 years ago. She made her home with her brother, the late Charlie Stapleton, for a number of years, later moving with her niece, Mrs. W. O. Fussell in the Center Point community. Some two years ago she was removed to a convalescent home at Keesville, Georgia. "Aunt Hannah's life was a long and interesting, and she was greatly loved and esteemed by a large host of friends. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist church. Survivors include a large number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jesse Drew, of Preston, is a step-daughter, and Benion F. Parker, Richland, is a step-son. Additional Comments: Hannah E. Stapleton was born 21 February 1854 in Henry Co., AL and died 06 February 1950 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., GA. She was a daughter of Sidney Hillman Stapleton and Elizabeth D. Beaty Stapleton.
