Fowler ==================================================================== March 1999 The Dothan Eagle, Friday, August 26, 1960 Emmett H. Hollis, widely-known farmer and merchant at Brannon Stand, died late yesterday afternoon in a Dothan hospital after a brief illness. He was 76. Born in the Pilgrim's Rest Community west of Dothan, he moved to Brannon Stand in 1918 and, until the 1930's, was manager of the 60-horse Spann Brothers Farm. He opened Brannon Stand Mercantile Company in 1927. Since that time he also had acquired extensive farm holdings in Geneva and Houston Counties. At one time, he was considered the leading hog farmer of this area but in recent years had given more attention to beef cattle. Mr. Hollis belonged to the Winslette Chapel Methodist Church and was a member of the Farm Bureau and Cattlemens Association. Funeral services will be held at the Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Dr. James Allen Smith and the Rev. Davis Martin will officiate. Ward-Wilson Funeral Home will direct burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the residence on Enterprise road, then at the church for one hour before the funeral. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dovie Reynolds Hollis; one son, Clarence Hollis; and a grandson, Steadman Hollis, all of Brannon Stand; a sister, Mrs. J. W. Gilbert, Gadsden; and a brother, H. A.
