Fowler ==================================================================== March 1999 The Dothan Eagle, Tuesday, June 30, 1992 James Franklin Whatley, 75, Dothan Rt. 4, died Saturday, June 27, 1992, in a local hospital following a brief illness. The funeral will be 4 this afternoon at the Webb United Methodist Church in Webb with the Revs. Wayne Newton and C. Jonathan Couey officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Ward-Wilson Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the funeral home until one hour prior to services when it will be placed in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the James Franklin Whatley Memorial Fund, c/o Dothan District Office, United Methodist Church, 230 Plaza II, Dothan, Alabama 36303. A native of Houston County, Mr. Whatley farmed in the community for more than 40 years. He also served his country as a naval officer during World War II before being honorably discharged in 1946. He was an active member of the Webb United Methodist Church and also served as an officer on the conference level. Mr. Whatley received his master's degree in commerce from the University of Alabama. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Juanita Lee Whatley, Dothan Rt. 4; son and daughter-in-law, Gavin F. and Sharon Whatley, Dothan Rt. 4; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Paul Barstad, Cincinnati; sister Marie Moore, Anderson, S. C.; and two grandsons, Benjamin and Ryan Whatley. Pallbearers will be Tim Moore, Charles (Butch) McClendon, Jan Ivey, James Edward King, Gene Ragan, Kim Canady, David Scarborough and Gerald B. Crowley.
