When ______ into service I lived in White Cty North Carolina -Thence I moved to Adair County Kentucky. Thence to Jackson County, Tennessee – thence to Jackson County Alabama where I now reside. I entered the Army as a volunteer – Genl. Rutherford, Col. Smith, Lt Col. Cunningham, Capt. Jno Cleveland, were the names of the regular officers of the militia that I can recollect. I have already stated as much of the general circumstances of my service as my memory serves me to recollect. Belefont, Ala November 12, 1842 Sir: About eight or then years ago, one Ananias Allen then & late of this (Jackson County Ala) now deceased made application to the department or bureau over which you preside through his attorney H. F. Scruggs, for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll. His said attorney (who has long since left this part of the country) forwarded his declaration for that purpose & received for answer that the same required some slight amendment, which from inattention never was made. The consequence is that said Allen died in this county in 1840 without further action upon his case. I am therefore requested by Hiram Allen and Wilson L. Allen, sons of the said Ananias and administrators of his estate to ask that said application be returned here (to me) with the cause or causes of its suspension in order (if possible) that the same may be amended so that his pension may be drawn up to the time of his death. I am ___ sir With high regards Your obt svt Elijah Harsbrough Pension Office Jan 16, 1843 Sir: I herewith return Mr. Harsbrough’s letter and have the honor to inform him that if Obadiah M Binge served so long as six months he may obtain a pension under the act of June 7, 1832, but he cannot establish a claim to an Invalid pension for wounds received during the revolution, as the laws granting pensions to revolutionary invalids expired several years since. The claim of Anianas Allen was rejected in the year 1835 as it appeared from his papers the he did not perform sixth months service during the war of the revolution.
