Nov. 20, 1935 Texas Pioneer Passes Away-John Thomas Hill, 91 years of age & a resident of Texas for the past 55 years died in a local hospital this morning about 3 o'clock, following an illness of 2 year's duration. Funeral services for the aged man, who had lived with a daughter, Mrs. J.I. Allison, 4 miles west of Memphis, for the past 10 years, are being conducted this afternoon at the First Baptist Church by Rev. O.K. Webb, pastor. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery with King's Mortuary in charge. At the time of his death, Mr. Hill had been confined to his bed for 12 months. The deceased was the father of 18 children, 12 of whom survive. He had 37 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; & 5 great-great-grandchildren. His surviving children are Mrs. J.I. Allison, Memphis; Arthur Hill, Lakeview; W.W. Hill, Baldwyn Park, Calil.; Mrs. John Lomax, Franklin, Texas; Mrs. Pickney Wootan, Hammond, Texas; Walter Hill, Buenas Aires, South American; Hill, Longview, Gene Hill, Baldwyn Park, Calif; Jay Hill, Texas; Mrs. Christine , Los Angeles, Calif; Miss Francis Olga Hill, Baldwyn Park, Calif; Miss Lear Hill, Amarillo. Mr. Hill was born in GA. & moved to Texas . He fought in the Civil War Confederate soldier. He was a member of the Mississippi church. The missing areas are where part of the paper was missing. Additional Comments: John Thomas Hill first married Nancy Ann Hurst in Jackson Co., AL on May 3, 1867. They had two know children---Vinie L. Hill who was born abt. 1866 in Clay Co. and married James J. Patterson March 4, 1881 in Clay Co., and Mae Linie who was born May 1, 1869 in Clay Co., and first married William Riley Smith March 4, 1881 in Clay Co., Alabama.
