The Democrat Newspaper Huntsville, Alabama, January 30, 1838

Madison County, January 20, 1838

Departed this life near Bellefonte, Jackson county, Alabama, on Monday 
morning the 8th of January, 1838, Mrs. Aletha Norwood in the 36th year of 
her age.  Consort of Colonel Henry Norwood, and the daughter of the late 
Col. George Caperton.

Mrs. Norwood has left a disconsolate husband, seven children, and many 
relatives and friends to mourn her early departure from time to eternity 
but their loss has, we believe, been her eternal gain.  She was a kind 
neighbor and an affectionate mother, a loving wife, which endeared her to 
them particularly and general to her relations.  But she is gone….

“Beyond the vale of time,
 Beyond the sleep of death
 Amid scenes eternal, scenes sublime
 Her soul has found rest
 And there amid the glorious throng,
 She joins a mother-n-father’s song.”
