M. Proctor, was married to Mr. John Buford Carter, of Athens, Alabama. The bride’s father officiated, using the ring ceremony. Cedars with ferns and southern smilax, formed the background of the altar arrangement. In the center a tall basket of Calla lilies was used against the foliage, and on each side were candelabra with slender white burning tapers. Baskets of Calla lilies were also placed at the foot of the altar on each side. The reserved pews were indicated by bows of ivory tulle. The nuptial music was rendered by Miss Willie H. Shook, at the piano, Miss Mildred Hays, who played the violin obligato; and Mrs. Stephen Lipscomb Stone, soloist, of Huntsville. Preceding the ceremony Mrs. Stone sang “O Promie Me.” To the strains of the Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin (Wagner) the bridal party entered, and Mendelssohn’s Wedding March from Midsummer Night’s Dream was used for the recessional. “To A Wild Rose” was played during the ceremony. Miss Doris Beard, maid of honor, wore a becoming costume of Nile green chiffon and velvet, arranged jacket effect and long skirt. Her close fitting hat was of gold mesh, and her slippers were Nile green satin. She carried an arm bouquet of pink Killarney roses. Miss Elizabeth Latimer, bridesmaid, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was gowned in a silhouette model of Canary yellow crepe chiffon. Her slippers were satin of the same shade of yellow, and the small hat was of gold mesh. She carried Julian Potin roses arrange in an arm bouquet. The bride entered the church with her brother, Bryan Proctor, who gave her in marriage. She was lovely in a wedding gown of white satin and lace, simple but exquisite, fashioned in the new princess silhouette with long fitted sleeves. The long skirt rippled into an uneven wide flare. Her veil of bridal illusion was held to the hair with a shirring of the same material in the back and a bandeau of orange blossoms across the front. Her slippers were plain of with satin. She carried a shower bouquet of bride’s roses and lilies of the valley. J. D. Snodgrass, III, of Huntsville, carried the ring in the center of a Calla lily. H. G. Spenser of Mobile, attended the bridegroom as best man. The ushers were Dr. E. P. Ingrum and Messrs. James Holland and Rudolph Jones. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Carter left for a wedding trip, their destination being withheld. For traveling Mrs. Carter wore a smart suit of black crepe completed with a yellow blouse. Her hat was of silver mesh and black satin and all accessories were black. Mrs. Carter is the only daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Proctor. She is an honor graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Auburn, and for the past two years has been instructor in Social Science in the Ft. Smith Junior High school Fort Smith, Ark., and in 1927-28 was a member of the faculty of Central High school, Decatur, Ala. She is a member of the Chi Omega fraternity, and of Alpha Phi Epsilon, the literary honorary fraternity of A.P.I., and is a charter member of Alpha Mu Rho, a philosophical honorary fraternity. During her junior year at A.P.I., Mrs. Carter was one of the few honor students exclusive of seniors, and in the class of 1927 was one of the few honor graduates out of a class of 200. Mr. Carter is the son of the late J. W. Carter, of Athens. His mother is Mrs. W. J. Nelson of that city. He is connected with the Alabama State Bridge corporation, and is engineer in charge of construction of the Comer memorial bridge across the Tennessee river near Scottsboro. He graduated with distinction in the class of 1926 at A.P.I. He is a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity, and of two professional (engineering) fraternities: Tau Beta Pi and Ki Kappa Phi. He is also a member of Spades, and for two years was student instructor at A. P. I. Among those extending pre-nuptial courtesies after the engagement of Miss Proctor to Mr. Carter were Miss Margaret Brand, Mrs. J. D. Burton and Mrs. Henry Fort, of Fort Smith, and Misses Doris Beard and Ollie Matthews, of Scottsboro. Mr. and Mrs. Carter will be at home in Scottsboro until the late spring when they will go to Huntsville where Mr. Carter will be engineer in charge of construction of the bridge at Whitesburg. The young couple received many beautiful wedding gifts including silver, crystal, pottery and china.
