History of the Bible: 

This Bible was in the possession of Joseph Fleming Macpherson (1857-1946) 
until such time as he chose to donate it to an African-American church 
starting up in Bessemer, Alabama, in the early part of the 20th century.  He 
also purchased and repaired a pump organ, donating it to the congregation.  
Before he gave them the Bible, however, he tore out the pages with the family 
record and kept them.
