David Hawkins chose the location from part of his plantion, Hawkins Springs, to be the family cemetery. It was enclosed with a fence of wide white plankes with a grove of old oak trees surrounding it. Only members of his family were buried in that place of beauty and harmony. When it was decided to widen the superhighway in about 1950, the David Hawkins Cemetery land was needed for the project. The graves and stones were moved across the road to the Walnut Grove Cemetery where all of David Hawkins's family was reburied. The abstractor of this survey visited the cemetery before the graves were moved. What follows is the information gathered at that time. Information in parenthesis ( ) added by her as well.
