Hanke lhbham@yahoo.com September 8, 2007, 3:54 pm Source: Jefferson Co Loose Records Written: 1913 Birmingham City Court - 1913 Box 8281, Case No. 6707 Mina Abel vs. Lonnie Abel et al Genealogy info from record: H. Abel, died 13 Aug 1908. Heirs were his wife, Mrs. C. Abel, and children, i.e.: Mina Abel, who brought the suit against the others, who was over 21 and lived in Woodlawn, a town now incorporated into the Birmingham AL city limits; Lonnie Abel, Gus Abel, John Abel, and Mamie Abel, who were all over 21 and lived in Woodlawn; Mrs. J. A. Hall, who was over 21 and lived in Atlanta GA; Gertrude Abel, who was a minor, living with her mother in Woodlawn. Also a minor and living with Mrs. Abel, was her granddaughter, Camilla Able, the only heir of a deceased son, Harry Abel - and therefore now an heir of Harry’s father, H. Abel. This was a disagreement over the administering of their father’s will. H. Abel had a business in Birmingham manufacturing wagons, carriages and buggies. His widow got ½ of the estate, each child got 1/16. Lonnie became administrator of the estate. Mina claimed all except Mrs. J. A. Hall were living off of or out of the proceeds of the business, drawing out money for personal needs, and that the business was beginning to suffer for it. She claimed she had never withdrawn sums, had never received any of her due amount, and requested statements of the business. Lonnie refused. Mina requested that inventory be taken and books be audited. Lonnie refused. So Mina took it to court to have the business sold and the money split. The case was dismissed, however, when Mina failed to appear on the date set for hearing. So maybe the family settled it out of court.
