vs.
Edward Drennen, et als

Genealogical information from the case:

JOSEPH E. DRENNEN bought land from the Avondale Land Company on 10 April 1906 
for $1500.00.  Lot 8 in Block 9, fronting 40' on Spring Street, running back 
100' to 2nd Avenue, and was known as "Hall property," or "Moore's Hall."  He 
also owned Lot 5, Block 18, on 6th Ave and Sumner Street.

Joseph died intestate 13 July 1908, leaving his widow KATE with four children 
under 12:
EDWARD DRENNEN 11, ROBERT LEE DRENNEN 8, RALPH DRENNEN 6, and KATHLEEN DRENNEN 
3.  Kate received $5,000 life insurance policy.  With that money plus more of 
her own, she had a two-story brick building erected on the north part of Lot 8 
in Block 9.  This she rented out for support of her family.  

However, the contract she thought she had with the renters of said building was 
not firm, and they left before five years were up, leaving the building vacant, 
and no income coming into the household.  There was only $15 per month from 
small houses rented on the other piece of property.

She petitioned the court to be allowed to sell the part of Lot 8 that had the 
brick building on it, reserving the north 40' of the lot which was the 
homestead, set aside for the widow and minors.  The court appointed a guardian-
ad-litem to see after the interests of her children.  Her brother-in-law LEE 
COTTON testified, as did her sister MABEL NUTT HUBBARD.



Additional Comments:

NOTE:  Things must have worked out, because the case was dismissed on motion of 
Kate Drennen.
