Strong 1913 Mattie Roebuck ('colored') died in Jefferson Co AL in 1901. She left the following surviving children: James Wilson (wife Annie) Mattie Trammill (called Nancy Tramble in one deposition) -husb. Ike Mary Adams (husb. Tom Adams) John Roebuck Katie Bates Sam Wilson (wife Sophie) Smith Roebuck Mattie Roebuck owned the following land at the time of her death: - NW 1/4 of NW 1/4 of S24 T16S R2W except for 10 acres in the NW corner of said 40 acres; - NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of NW 1/4 and the NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of S24 T16S R2W except for 8 acres in the NE corner of said NW 1/4. The land was sold to split the proceeds with the minors, and James Strong bought it, paid for it and got a deed. The court case revolved around the adult heirs claiming the land was also theirs, and they had a right to convey their interest in said land. The case was dismissed 29 June 1915, however, because the complainants failed to show at the time set for hearing.
