Eaton, et al Involving land described as the S 1/2 of the SE 1/4 of Section 28, Township 17S, Range 4W. The Tennesee etc. Co claimed title to the land, and that claim was disputed by all the defendants in the cause. They responded that the Tenn. Co only had a 1/6 interest in the land, and that it was a co-owner with all of them. The court upheld their demurrers. Genealogical information from the case: Hiram G. Shoemaker died intestate 'during the War between the States, about the year 1864.' The family did not know the exact date. Elizabeth Shoemaker, his widow, was also deceased. They left the following heirs: Martha Shoemaker married J. P. Eaton. Permelia A. Shoemaker married and was now the Widow Anthony. Demarius Shoemaker (female) married J. A. Garrett, was now a widow. Sarah G. Shoemaker married N. A. Poole, now lived in Tuscaloosa. Wesley Shoemaker married M. L. unknown surname, he died and she remarried unknown first name Hendrix. Wesley and M. L.'s children were his heirs: M. A. Shoemaker W. C. Shoemaker O. H. Shoemaker N. A. Shoemaker N. L. Shoemaker (The case also lists a Margaret Hendrix) H. W. Shoemaker Ethel Shoemaker married Silas Higgins. (Other Higgins' listed: Ed Higgins, Franklin Co AL. His children: Connie Higgins and M. B. Higgins. G. P. Higgins M. B. Higgins) Dennis C. Shoemaker Nancy Shoemaker married Benjamin R. Stevens. Her children were heirs: Ira F.(A?) Stevens Nancy Estella Stevens married a Crowder (her nickname was Essie) William H. Stevens Mary E. Stevens married a Weems Sarah G. Stevens married a Dabbs (her nickname was Dollie) H. Wesley Stevens Minnie L. The papers were a bit confusing. 1860 Jefferson Co Census shows: Hyram Shoemaker 35 AL Elizabeth 30 AL Angeline 12 AL Hyram W. 8 AL Nancy M. 5 AL Martha A. 3 AL Fleming Shoemaker 67 AL (a younger Fleming Shoemaker is living nearby, age 27, wife Amanda. They were living in the Bethlehem area of Jefferson Co, which is now the northern part of Bessemer.)
