Hanke lhbham@yahoo.com January 27, 2008, 4:05 pm Written: 1903 Box 8621, Case No. 2944 J. H. Wallace, Trustee of the Estate of A. J. Tanner vs A. J. Tanner, R. C. Tanner, Julia Putman, Maude Hollis This case involved land belonging to A. J. Tanner, described thus: The NE ¼ of the NW ¼ of Section 9, Township 15, Range 4 West; NW ¼ of NW ¼ of same, except for a five-acre square block in the SE corner of said 40 acres; N.W. ½ of the SW ¼ of the NW ¼ of S 9, T 15, R 4W; Part of the SW ¼ of the NE ¼ of S 9, T 15, R 4W lying on the west side of Camp Creek, being 5 acres, more or less; All of the NE ¼ of the SE ¼ of S 9, T 15, R 4W. Also that part of the NE ¼ of the SE ¼ of S 9, T 15, R 4W lying on the west side of Camp Creek. Also all of the SW ¼ of the SE ¼ of S 4, T 15, R 4W on the west side of Camp Creek "up to a rock standing below the springs – the spring Thomas Campbell once got his summer water from; and in the direction of another rock, standing, thence out back to the opposite side of said creek, including mills, shoals of said SW ¼ of the SE ¼ of S 4, T 15, R 4W, all in T 15, R 4W, containing 150 acres [as well as] all of the coal, iron, and other minerals in, upon or under said lands, together with the mineral rights …" A. J. TANNER lived in "Partridge and Cross Roads," today called simply Partridge Crossroads. His wife was L. A. TANNER, his children listed in this case were R. C. TANNER, JULIA PUTMAN, and MAUDE HOLLIS. According to the complaint, plaintiff accused A. J. Tanner of deeding the above land to his three children in order to prevent said land from being taken to satisfy debts. A. J. Tanner also filed for bankruptcy, by which action the land on which his house stood, as well as personal property, would be exempt from debtors, also. That land was described thus: The NE ¼ of the NE ¼ of Section 7, Township 15, Range 4W; NE ¼ of the NW ¼ of S 8, T 15, R 4W. (Another line of description repeated exactly this same information, 'ditto-ing' everything up to S, T, and R – which were written out the same as that above it. I don't know why.) A. J. Tanner at this time, listed the following personal property: 2 mules named Jack, worth $75, and Beck, $50 One mare Fannie, worth $25 Cows worth $20 each and calves worth $3 each 4 head of cows worth $15 each, and one cultivator $25 2 buggies worth $15 each 2 two-horse plows, $5 each 2 one-horse plow, $4 each.
