For extraordinary heroism in action near Beuvardes, France, July 29, 1918. Upon learning that his platoon commander had been wounded, Pvt. Drysdale voluntarily left cover and went to his assistance under intense enemy machine-gun fire. With another soldier he administered first aid to the wounded officer and then carried him through the machine-gun fire to a place of safety.
