Birmingham News,  Alabama State Archives, Montgomery Al May 1947
Mr.and Mrs. Robert Lee Black celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their 
home at 8031 Third Avenue, South, Sunday. They were married at Ashland, Ala., May 
12, 1897. Mrs. Black is the former Miss Hattie Belle Messer. Mr. Black is the 
oldest brother of Supreme Court Justice Hugo BLack. The Blacks have nine children.
