V. WALTERS, Long WIth Sloss, Dies A man who watched Birmingham and Bessemer grow from horse and buggy towns to cities of industrial wealth, died yesterday at a local hospital. Alcy Vincent Walters, 712 20th St. S., worked for Sloss-Sheffield for 35 years before his retirement six years ago. A daughter, Mrs. J. W. GOBER, recalled, "Because of his usually good safety record he was permitted to work until he was 70, or five years over the retirement age. He received five or six safety awards," she said. Funeral for Mr. WALTERS, 76, will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Brown-Service Bessemer Chapel. The Rev. William C. Holland, the Rev. J. H. Chitwood an the Rev. James B. Cambron will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood. Mr. WALTERS is survived by the widow; three sons, H. T., E. B., and A. V. WALTERS, Jr.; six daughters, Mrs. Forest CROTWELL of Gulf Shores, Mrs. J. W. GOBER of Decatur, Mrs. Cecil JACKSON of Monroeville, Mrs. Fred FINNEN of Houston, Tex., Mrs. W. B. KINBROUGH, and Mrs. Earle [sic] ROY, both of Bessemer; three brothers, C. D. WALTERS, of Georgia; E. H. WALTERS of N.C., Emmett WALTERS of Texas; two sisters, Mrs. B. F. HALEY of Georgia, Mrs. R. S. BLACKSTOCK. WALTERS, Alcy Vincent, Sr., age 76, of 712 S. 20th St., passed away Tuesday morning at a local infirmary. Survived by his wife, Mrs. A. V. WALTERS, 3 sons, H. T., E. B., and A. V. WALTERS, Jr.; 6 daughters, Mrs. Forrest CROTWELL of Gulf Shores, Ala.; Mrs. J. W. GOBER, of Decatur, Ala.; Mrs. Cecil JACKSON, of Monroeville, Ala.; Mrs. Fred FINNEN, of Houston, Tex.; Mrs. W. B. KIMBROUGH and Mrs. Earle [sic] ROY, Bessemer; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from Brown-Service Bessemer Chapel with the Rev.
